Why so glum? Have some chocolate! Yes, you got that right. It sure does sound surreal but trust me, it always does the trick. Believe it or not, chocolate really helps in improving your mood state and always makes you feel better. For me, chocolate is my ultimate comfort food! Apart from being a mood elevator, chocolate has numerous health benefits as well. It helps in lowering cholesterol levels and is very nutritious. Anyhow, what could possibly be any better than a chocolate. Isn’t being a sweet treat enough to stop you from being so grumpy?

Sugar level is not the only factor that affects the mood state. As much as sugar highs and lows contribute to your mood swings, you shouldn’t completely neglect your eating habits. Are you even eating the right food? Being a health freak myself, I have done a tremendous amount of research based on nutritional value of my daily meal intake. The key to optimizing the optimum nourishment is to consume the right amount of carbohydrates, proteins, fats and fibre that are required in a healthy diet. Besides your eating habits, it’s crucial that you eat more often. In order to keep your stomach and yourself happy, it’s recommended that you eat at least 5-6 meals per day. Ever wondered why you feel so drained and worn out? That’s because you’re not eating what your body craves.

God forbid, don’t ever skip your breakfast! Did your mother always tell you not to step out with an empty stomach early in the morning. Well, turns out she was right. Majority of us skip the most important meal of the day without taking into consideration how it could affect us throughout the day. Skipping a meal is always a bad idea, be it your breakfast, lunch or dinner. However, when it comes to breakfast, starting off your day without it can ruin your whole day as it’s more likely to make you feel hangry (hungry and angry). Are you feeling less productive and more fatigued and irritated? Maybe it’s time for you to change your morning routine which would ultimately boost your mood all day long. Some people feel nauseous after having breakfast and I used to be one of them. Nonetheless, starting your day even with a small amount of food can give you the right amount of energy to function throughout the day. It’s never too late to change your bad habits!

Ever been through the pain of killing your cravings? Getting rid of your food cravings can get you on an emotional rollercoaster. Irritability and rage are most likely to occur since you’re not getting what you desire. Trust me, I can tell. Being on a restricted diet is a nightmare! That being so, if you want to avoid a bad mood, never suppress your appetite. However, it’s understandable to repress your cravings if you’re not hungry as over eating is not good either. Binge eating has its own consequences and can result in fluctuating mood swings. It makes you feel more tired and drowsy. Ergo, it’s important to have healthy eating habits to keep your mood stable. Hence good food makes a good mood!
